Shopping in ancient Rome would seem unusual to us because they had no "big box" stores where one can get everything at a single location. The Romans did have specialized fora for certain items, such as fish, vegetables, beef, etc. but there were also many shops and businesses surrounding them. A shopping trip in Rome was an adventure in manoeuvrings through the crowded streets going from store to store. There were also days designated as "market days" when fresh produce, flowers, eggs and such were brought in from the country. These market days were every eight days, but not strictly adhered to. There were also times when all shops and businesses had to close. These times were in connection with some festivals.
