Chickens will lay eggs in sub zero temperatures. Here in Canada temperature drop below freezing for almost 4 months of the year regularly and chickens continue to lay eggs. Temperature changes are much less a factor to egg laying as light. A chicken needs 14 hours of light per day to produce eggs.

∙ 15y agoWhen they first shed that shell and start moving around they should remain at the same 100 F and high humidity until they are fluffy and dry. They can then be removed to a brooder box where the temperature should be at least 95F under the heat lights. This can be reduced by 5 Degrees every few days until they are living in about 70 degrees F.
In cold climates, they should be kept in this temperature until daily temps reach at least 70 F.
