On one occasion Amelia Earhart invited Eleanor Roosevelt to take a flight over the capital, which Eleanor accepted. To mark the occasion Amelia wore an evening gown while piloting the aircraft. During the flight, Amelia promised to teach Mrs Roosevelt how to fly and towards that goal, the first lady obtained her students' permit. Sadly, due to Earhart's disappearance, the First Lady never began her official flying lessons.
