Harald Hardrada was not actually blood- related to King Edward the Confessor.

instead he was related to a previous king of England by the name of King Canute.

apparently it was said that on King Edward's death bed, Edward promised to him that he would be able to take care of his wife and of his kingdom.

This was not true as this conversation was only had with, William the Conqueror, who was in fact related to the wife of King Edward. (This was his sister.)

As the truth was not found out until a later date, they decided that they would find a king in a fair way.

This was called a joust or a fight which William of Normandy (now William the Conqueror) won.

This was how they found their king.

Overall, this means that...

No, Mr Harald Hardrada was not blood related to Mr Edward the Confessor.

He was not actually related by blood to Edward. When Edward died Harald claimed the throne, claiming to be descended from King Cnut, who had killed Edward's half-brother Edmund Ironside in battle and married Edward's mother Emma of Normandy. The crown was taken by Harold Godwin and Harald invaded, but was killed in battle with Harold.

Why did Harold Godwinson William Edgar and Harold Hardrada want to be Kink of England?

Apparently in 1051 Edward the confessor had named William as the heir Harold Godwin(son). His sister was married to Edward and Harold had helped Edward fight many battles during his reign.Edgar the Atheling was the nearest blood relative to Edward and so felt almost challenged to become king. Harald Hardrada's ancestors were kings of England previously so he felt he had the right to be king. They obviously were all megalomaniacs and were obsessed with power.

Who was King Edward the confessors closest relative?

King Edward the Confessor's closest relatives were his mother and his brother. After that, William, Duke of Normandy, known as "The Conqueror" was closest blood relative, a cousin.Harald Godwineson was 20 years old when Edward married Harald's aunt, Edith. Thus, Harald and Edward did not share a drop of the same blood.

Who wanted the throne 1066?

The contenders of the throne were Edgar Aethling ( Edward the Comnfessors closest blood relative alive at the time), William Duke of Normandy ( William I), Harald Hardraada and Harold Godwinson. I have no clue why they wanted it but it was probably because they wanted to be king.

Some historians say Harold godwinson had the best claim to the throne why?

He had the best claim because he had more witnesses than William did when Edward supposedly promised him the throne 14 years earlier. He was a Saxon Baron in England and had been touted as the most likely successor many years prior to Edward's death. Other parties such as Harald Hardrada, the Viking King, had a generation old promise that had died out with his father. Edgar Atheling may have had the best claim, as he was Edward's closest male blood relative. He never pursued his claim though, as he was only very young at the time of Edward's death.

Why was Harald Hardrada a contender for the English throne?

Harald Hardrada was the strong Viking king of Denmark. He was related to King Cnut and his sons. He said this gave him the right to invade.Harold believed that an agreement made between the previous kings of England and Denmark gave him the rightful claim. He relied on his Viking reputation of being fierce. He was a tremendous warrior, and had travelled across and beyond Europe. Harold Hardrada was a true Viking, and wanted to take England by force.Earl Tostig offered to help Harold Hardrada. Tostig was Harold Godwinson's brother. He had been banished from England in disgrace.Hardrada and Tostig joined together to plan their invasion. They probably knew that Duke William was also planning to invade. They thought if King Harold was distracted by Duke William's invasion in the south, it would be easy to invade the north.

What was the relationship between Edward the Confessor and harald hadraada?

Harald did not have a blood relation directly to Edward. But he did have a claim to the throne. In the early 1040's, England belonged to Harthacnut. Denmark was Magnus' land. Harald had claimed that there was an agreement between the two, that if either had died with no children, then the other would rule both England and Denmark. When Harthacnut died, Magnus didn't go on to claim England allowing Edward the Confessor to become king. Harald, was made king of Denmark, and so he could claim the throne. He did not do this by himself though. He was encouraged by Earl Tostig Godwinson, Harold Godwinson's outcast brother, who promised the help of "most of the chieftans in England" would be on his side. They were both killed at war at the Battle of Stamford Bridge. This was answered by a thirteen year old boy doing an assignment for his History class in Year 8. If you think some of this is wrong please improve.

What problem did Edward the confessor leave behind?

The huge problem that King Edward the Confessor left behind was his broken word over naming a successor to the English throne.Twice in public, King Edward confirmed to William of Normandy that he would name William as his successor. He also made this agreement personally with William in private. On his deathbed, King Edward reneged on his word and named Harald Godwineson, a newphew by marriage, but not by blood. King Edward then left behind the problem of a broken, royal vow, to a legitimate blood heir to the crown in favor of one who had no blood claim on the crown. This resulted in the Battle of Hastings in 1066 that changed the British landscape forever and the Conquest of England by William of Normandy, the Conqueror.
