This was the in-house name for the juvenile Studio audience. they may have paid for studio ticket, but were not professional actors like the Mousketeers. accordingly there was no uniform or badge, cap, etc to identify Peanut Gallery members- unlike, again the Mickey Mouse headgear. In effect they were the studio audience on bleachers like those used in Basketball arenas- could fold away when not in use.
peanut gallery
it refers to an audience that heckles a performer, they occupy the cheapest seats and eat the cheapest snack - peanuts The phrase originated with the Howdy Doody Show, which aired live on NBC from 1947 to 1960. The children who got tickets to sit in the ground-level audience (the best seats) were called the Peanut Gallery. They had the honor of answering Buffalo Bob's question, "What time is it?" by screaming, "It's Howdy Doody time!"
The studio audience were known as the Peanut Gallery and sometimes as Peanuts. Do not confuse with the Charles Schultz cartoon of that name- by the way no character in Peanuts is so-named. Sorry, Charlie Brown.
The duration of Howdy Doody is 3600.0 seconds.
Since Howdy Doody didn't eat there was no worry about his doodie.
I don't remember the cartoon being on the Howdy Doody Show but it may have been ~ see related link below .

Howdy Doody was a famous puppet on a television show. If you call someone Howdy Doody, you are basically implying that they look like him. Howdy doody was an unattractive ginger puppet who was covered in freckles and made to be the joke of the show. It was most popular among children. Howdy Doody was the poster child for ginger kids back in the 40's

The fictional town of Doodyville. It was not quite clear whether A. Howdy Doody was a child or an adult, or just what the status of Mr.Bluster was, he may have been a businessman, he was not a politician to my knowledge. ( Phineas T Bluster was his full name, more or less a Scrooge-type, but non-violent comic villain.)
