Where did Jackie Chan come from?

Jackie was born Chan Kong-sang which literally means 'born in Hong Kong'. When he was at the Peking Opera School he was given the name Yuen Lo by the master Jim Yuen. All the students were given the name Yuen ... hence Yuen Biao, Yuen Wah etc. When Jackie started making movies he needed an onscreen name and 'borrowed' Sammo Hung's opera school name 'Yuen Lung'. After leaving Hong Kong and temporarily giving up on making movies he moved to Australia to be reunited with his parents. While there he attended Dickson College where he was given the name 'Paul'. Later he worked on a building site where he was introduced as 'Little Jack' because no-one knew how to pronounce his Chinese name and the person who got him the job was called Jack. 'Little Jack' soon contracted to 'Jackie' and 'Jackie Chan' was born. When Jackie returned to Hong Kong at the invitation of Willie Chan to make 'New Fist of Fury' Jackie continued to use 'Jackie Chan' as his English screen name. His Chinese screen name is Chen Long (Mandarin) or Sing Lung (Cantonese). At first 'Jackie' was spelled 'Jacky' until someone pointed out that 'Jacky' was the girl's spelling.
