Indusrial revolution how did factories help towns grow?

Alexander Hamilton was America's visionary for an agricultural and industrial country. Read his Report on Manufactures - incredible insight that he took in founding America's first planned industrial city - Paterson, NJ which just was named as the National Park's most recent site (November 2011). --- With agriculture, the farms were distributed over large areas with the required employees therefore distributed. Industrial enterprise required many people in a small area for factories and industry to succeed.

Why was the Industrial Revolution such an important event?

The Industrial Revolution vastly transformed the world in virtually all aspects of life. Begun in Britain, it would spread to the rest of Europe and later to the US and Japan, drastically changing society. Transformation of economy - The economy changed to take on capitalist aspects, revolving around supply and demand, trying to meet that demand with machines in conjunction with human labor, with the ultimate goal of making a profit. This goal encouraged the development of new inventions to improve efficiency, such as the steam engine which lead to the railroad, a great improvement in transportation and the symbol of industrialization. Traditional "estates" give way to "classes." A middle class forms whose success is based on achievement, not birth. Workers are no longer serfs and bound to the land. A feudal type of society is replaced by a society based around making a profit. Cities became important centers of industrialization (such as Manchester in Great Britain). With a new society developing based around making a profit, workers were treated horribly for the sake of their employers' bank accounts, with human labor being bought and sold as a commodity. Reforms would emerge to combat this problem, as well as modern political ideologies trying to best manage and govern industrial society, such as classical liberalism, utilitarianism, and socialism. Industrialization encouraged competitions among nations, each wanting to prove itself better and more powerful economically. This emergence of nationalist sentiments and competition encouraged military build up using the enormous economic potential of industrialized nations. Channeling their economic and military power into imperialism, the industrialized European nations, and later Japan, undertook conquests to control undeveloped regions and exploit them for profit, as well as "civilize" them, forcing culture on them. In summary: The Industrial Revolution drastically changed society from a traditional, agrarian, and feudal system to an industrialized, capitalist system with social classes based on money earned. Society became highly industrialized, with mass production to meet large demand of a growing population, which would give rise to new ideologies, such as imperialism, nationalism, communism, and classical liberalism.
