Where was the Battle of Hastings set?

on senlac hill

Why was the Battle of Hastings on a hill?

The battle of Hastings was on a hill because Harold set up his army in that tactical position. Behind the hill was a dense wood that nobody could go through and in front of the hill the Normans would have to climb up. It was Harold's desicion. Please recommend for more answers.

Why did the battle of hastings took place in senlac hill?

The Saxons decided to set their army up on the top of Slenac Hill because it was a good position for their archers, it was a hard target for the Norman army and they could see everything that went on down below where the Normans were.

How far did Williams army have to come to get to battle?

The battleground was six or eight miles from an encampment William's army had just set up in Hastings, so it was not a long march, especially considering how far the Anglo Saxons had to march, which was hundreds of miles. William's army was mostly made up of men from Normandy, France, and Flanders, who had arrived to points across the channel from their homes by whatever means. Some came from as far as southern Italy, so as individuals, they had travelled varying distances.

Who led the Normans in the Battle of Hastings?

Yes the Normans did win the Battle of Hastings because of Harold Godwinson's mistakes for example he lost most of his men because he fought in a battle against Hardrada just before he heard that the Normans had landed in Dover and he only had about a quarter of his men left. Does that answer the question??!!

What were Harold's mistakes in preparation for the Battle of Hastings?

After Harold Defeated a small Norman force in Yorkshire he got wind of William the Conqueror's main force set sail from Norway. His Mistake was he did not rest and reorganise his army, he just went to their landing site, Hastings, beliving that he would win over the Norman soldiers just as he did in Yorkshire

What is the name of the first battle of 1066?

The first battle in 1066 was the "Battle of Fulford" on September 20th between the Earls Edwin and Morcar of England, in command of half the English forces and the Scandinavian invaders under Harald Hardrada of Norway. The English lost. The next battle was the "The Battle of Stamford Bridge" on September 25th. It began when Harald Hardrada and the Vikings attacked, but their army was soon defeated by King Harold Godwinson'sEnglish army who had arrived from the south. King Harold then travelled south to a place called "Battle" where the famous "Battle of Hastings" took place on October 14th (Although it was set in Battle.. but you can't call it the "Battle of Battle"). Harold Godwinsons army was tired from the long walk from Stamford Bridge, and this resulted in William of Normandy'sarmy destroying the English army. William of Normandy was latter crowned King Of England at Westminster Abbey, on Christmas Day 1066.

Why did William the Conqueror set sail for England?

William went to Senlac Hill in a place in Hastings which is now called 'Battle' to fight Harold Godwinson I for the crown. He never went to Dover, well for nothing important anyway. Brainycat12
