Life at the missions could be hard, especially for the native americans. There might be little to eat, and the mission its self could suffer from fires or earthquakes. Often, there wasn't enough medicine if people got sick. Also, the medicine that they had was by no means up to today's standards. The Native Americans would often get beaten and might not get enough food. The might get put in beaten just because they couldn't understand orders that they were given.
