He didn't - that was John Snow of England. Snow didn't know EXACTLY what was in the water that caused cholera to spread, but he was able to prove, to most everyone's satisfaction, that it was contaminated water, and not foul air, that caused cholera to spread.
Snow used epidemiological and statistical methods to identify the water pump in a district of London that was the source of cholera germs that had caused an outbreak of the disease. In doing this he helped to lead the way in applying similar approaches, even before the germ theory of disease had been developed. Please see the link.
It was a doctor, John Snow, in London England, during the cholera outbreak in 1853. Those that drank beer, were free of the plague. Isolating a contaminated water pump, proved the theory.
John Snow was one of the first physicians to study and calculate dosages for the use of ether and chloroform as surgical anesthetics, allowing patients to undergo surgical and other procedures without the distress and pain they would otherwise experience. He is considered to be one of the fathers of epidemiology, because of his work in tracing the source of a cholera outbreak in Soho, England, in 1854. He is the one who found the source of a cholera outbreak in Soho was the water supply. Before that it was believed that the cholera was caused by pollution or a noxious form of "bad air". John Snow discovered cholera in 1852, from contaminated water.
john snow improved health by finally finding a cure to cholera.
Cholera bacteria was first isolated by Filipo pancini 1812-1883, 84 years before he was actually credited with its discovery. A paper was published by him in in 1854 during the Asiatic cholera pandemic of 1846-63. in it he has the description of the cholera causing organism and its relationship to the disease. It was titled Microscopical observations and pathological deductions on cholera.
John Snow traced the source of the outbreak of cholera. In doing this, he was able to link the infection to the water as what caused it and passed it around. Also, he was one of the first physicians to study and calculate how much anaesthesia is needed to keep patients asleep for long enough during an operation, but ensuring it wasn't too much and won't kill them.
John Snow (1813-1858) mapped cholera affected houses in Broad Street, London, and the water pump they got their water from. By doing this, he saw a link between the cholera houses and one certain pump in that area establishing the link between water and the spread of cholera.Extra info-He published a book about this in 1849 about his findings. (On the Mode of Communication of Cholera)He ended the theory that Miasma (bad air) caused disease but still didn't prove exactly what caused disease, just how it was spread. His theory was not widely accepted until the 1960s.
Name of the physician was Dr John Snow. The cholera out break occurred near Broad street in Soho district of London. (Now renamed Broad-wick street.)
he stopped it by tracking down loads of people in1854 and found they all drank from a well john snow soon tracked down the well and with the evidence he had he shut the well down and cholera had gone he had saved the day
Nobody. It was John Snow in 1854
