The Dead Sea is a very salty lake located in the Middle East, between Jordan and Israel. There are conflicting theories about how it was formed, but scientists think that a natural valley was flooded by the Mediterranean Sea and the water became trapped in there, forming the sea.

The Dead Sea is an area where there is no outlet for the water flowing south. Therefore, the water collects on a plain at the end of the Jordan River. It is also the lowest place on earth, at over 1,200 feet below sea level.
