In the North prejudice and racism werent practiced as much as in the South. The North integrated schools and didnt segregate races. Although some whites' personalities havent changed about blacks during the civil war, their policies of racism werent as harsh as the south.

The South enacted the Jim Crow Laws. These were a set of laws that segregated blacks and whites. They had colored watering ftns, colored schools, and seperated everything, and gave the colored people bad quality. If a man even looked at a white person the wrong way they could be killed. (See Emmet Till Case) Southerners basically hated blacks. So they treated them bad.

The North was more open to black and whites together and were nicer than the south.

How were the North and South life different from 1700 to 1800?

Between 1700 and 1800, life was different between the North and South due to a more developed economic base in the North. Major ports in the North such as Boston, New York & Philadelphia were places for shipbuilding and population centers that supported more industrial development than in the South. Although the North did have agricultural resources, the South was almost dependent upon it's agricultural base. Along with the agricultural base were slave workers. Thus more so in the South, the slave population grew along with the size & importance of plantations. All in all, the major difference in day to day life between the North and South was one of an agricultural based society in the South. This was different than the steps the North was taking towards industrialism that was creating a society becoming more urban centered.
