The problem was solved by Charlotte (the spider) writing some words about Wilbur (the pig) in her web. The farmers and locals were so amazed that they decided to stop Wilbur being killed and to use him as a tourist attraction instead. Unfortunately, all this writing exhausted Charlotte and at the end of the story she dies.
In "Charlotte's Web," the problem of Wilbur being sent to the slaughterhouse was solved by Charlotte weaving messages in her web to make Wilbur famous. This led to Wilbur's life being saved, as people came to see the "miracle" of the web and Wilbur's special qualities.
