the Scotland yard was created by the London police because their old building burned to the ground. they needed a new immediately and temporarily set up at the yard. They grew to like it and decided to set up a permanent headquarters there. they named the yard after a bum who came in and said "oh my, I'm in Scotland. How in the world did i get here!"
