Gandhi was a great figure because he believed in freedom, equal rights and all this in the most pacifist way. This is different from the Indian society because they have established castas in which people have to be born into. The dalit are not even considered people because they weren't born from the gods but from the dust of the gods feet. They believed that they couldn't even talk nor walk in their shadows because they would need to be cleansed although most India today have become more modernized to believe in this.
