I would guess you must be eating more than you were before you started. You have to be careful because exercise increases your appetite and if you eat more (especially of the wrong things) then fat will be gained instead of lost.

joining gym will not stop your height in fact your height will increase but remember dont pick up too much weight at your shoulders.chin up sets are good for height
176 is certainly not fat for someone 5'9. However if barely any of that weight is muscle and all fat then you could appear fat. : ) so in other words if you are fat hit the gym tubby
yes you can build muscle and loose fat, but you can also gain weight. I tried loosing weight by going to the gym and gained muscle so therefore that made me gain weight eve though I lost fat because fat can be turned into muscle

The only way you can gain weight by not going to the gym is to pig out and over eat. If you maintain a healthy life style and eat properly you shouldn't get fat, but you will loose muscle size, and strength
