Most of the stone for the Great Pyramid was quarried locally. The stone which was not was floated down the Nile River on a barge made from papyrus reeds to a jetty close to the pyramid site. Here ropes were tied to the sledges on which the stones rested. Then gangs of naked slaves would drag them to the pyramid site.
