The victims in Treblinka were subjected to inhumane treatment. They were stripped of their belongings and clothes upon arrival, with their heads shaved. They were then forced into gas chambers and killed in large numbers using carbon monoxide. The bodies were later burned in open-air cremation pits.

The sole purpose of Treblinka was to kill victims as soon as practical after arrival. It was not a labour camp or 'conventional' concentration camp. A very small number of new arrivals were selected to help the Nazis with the extermination process.

Who operated treblinka?

Treblikna I was a very harsh Nazi forced labour camp. Treblinka II was a Nazi extermination camp, in operation in 1942-43. An estimated 850,000 victims were murdered there. It had the second highest death toll, after Auschwitz. Both camps were built and run by the SS.

How many Jews were transported to Treblinka?

The sole purpose of Treblinka was to kill Jews and gypsies as quickly as possible after their arrival. It was an extermination camp. A relatively small number of new arrivals were 'selected' for grave digging and sorting the possessions of gassed victims. For these reasons the camp was small, and the number of prisoners there was small, too - probably not more than about 1,500 at any time.

How many people died at Auschwitz Birkenau?

The number of survivors of Treblinka II (the extermination camp) still alive at the end of World War 2 is given in the Wikipedia article on Treblinka as 40 (forty). (Compare this with the usual estimate of at least 850,000 victims slaughtered). Please see the link below. In addition, there was an older labor camp, Treblinka I, which was mainly intended for non-Jewish Poles who did not "cooperate" with the Nazis. It was a concentration camp (not an extermination camp) and had more survivors. Apparently some prisoners from this camp were drafted for various tasks at Treblinka II, but otherwise the two camps were distinct and separate.
