They were performed on stage. The Globe theater was one place where his plays were seen. The theater was lit by candles so it would sometimes catch fire and burn down. The ground floor had no seats and it was mainly young men standing to watch the play. The second level had seats and often were couples, but the third level was mainly women selling themselves to the men. It was a loud ruckus place with women selling Oranges to the audience. Often fruits and vegetables would be thrown at the actors. Very few were actually watching the play.
