How will the Milky Way galaxy end?

It will gradually "evaporate", meaning individual stars will acquire enough speed to escape from the Milky Way, and leaving the remaining stars closer together. Eventually, about half of its mass should escape, while the other half is absorbed in the now huge black hole in its center. This black hole, too, will eventually evaporate and disappear.

All this will take a long, long time - the last stars will have stopped shining way before that.
