If you have the box under My Settings checked to have WikiAnswers automatically e-mail you when your questions are answered, it will send an email to you when it has been answered. Then you can read the answer.
If you chose the option 'watch question' when you asked the question, it will show up in 'My Watchlist' when there any changes have been made to that Q&A, one of which may be the answer.
You need to make an account or log-in before you receive email notifications, Otherwise, you can just bookmark your question's page and check it later to see if anyone answered it.
When asking a question, and it already exists on WikiAnswers, the website will either automatically direct you to the question page (if you worded it exactly) or it will direct you to 5 suggestions, one of which may be the same as your question (but worded differently). If your question doesn't exist at all (in any wording), you can add it, as you have been doing.
