Much more people would've been killed because of the lack of defense. Trenches served a great big deal during World War 1.
Without the machine gun in WWI, it would have been very different. Machine guns were used very much in WWI. They were used to mow down soldiers that were trying to rush the trenches, and so they were very effective for defending the trench from oncoming soldiers. Without the machine gun, bolt action rifles and bayonets, along with Mills bombs would have been the main weapons. Bolt action rifles are much slower to shoot than machine guns, and therefore trenches would have been conquered much more easily.
Inside the trenches there is dugouts. They would sleep in there.
Reserve trenches were used as supplies for the trenches out the front. In world war one, they had come up with a technique of hiding in trenches before they fight. To do this properly, they had made them zig-zags. The trenches on the front line were where the soldiers would fight from. Reserve trenches were used in case these people had anything happen to them and they needed to use more trenches and more men. Throughout the war, the conditions of the front line trenches became worse as the communication and reserve trenches improved. I hope that helped :)
Mostly on the ground, if they were in the trenches. They would scrape "funk holes" in the side of the trenches as some protection from the elements and shrapnel or, if they were lucky there would be a dugout - an underground tunnel that would be safe against all but a direct hit from a shell.
If you tryed to run across, the enemies would pop out of the trenches and shoot you. Another negative factor was that both sides had periscope rifles. A periscope rifle has a periscope instead of a normal scope; this allowed them to shoot above the trench without showing your head
how would the world be different with out pocahontas
It would not be significantly different.
there would not be a food chain
There wouldn't be train tracks, and you couldn't play tic-tac-toe.
we would not have lef blowers and lawnmotors in the world and the world would be so mess

Einsteinium is not so important to change the world.

TheGermans realized that they would have to stay in hem longer so they carefully planned their trenches. The British however didn't realize this and hastily constructed their trenches. Hope that helped!
we would not have women's rights
Trenches in the Pacific Theater of the war were absolutely vital to save lives. They dug them on every island they fought upon. Trenches in Africa, Italy and during the Normandy Invasion, Battle of the Bulge were critical too. The poor guys in the Battle of the Bulge and in the Ardenne Forest had to literally make snow trenches and even sleep in them. Some of the soldiers even used fallen vehicles for trenches and safe protection. Without trenches hundreds of thousands of men would have died, even if some did die in the trenches, especially when they stood up.
we would have to use alternative resources to get things done.
