A conflict theorist would view racism as a way for dominant groups to maintain power and control over marginalized groups. They would argue that racism creates social inequalities by allowing those in power to justify their privileged positions and oppress others based on race. Conflict theorists would advocate for dismantling systemic racism to address these power imbalances.
A Functionalist might view the Prohibition Era as an attempt to promote social order by reducing alcohol-related crime and improving public health. A Conflict Theorist might see it as a tool of social control by powerful groups to restrict the behavior of marginalized communities. An Interactionist might focus on how prohibition influenced social interactions, such as speakeasies providing spaces for people to socialize outside the law.
A conflict theorist would criticize the hidden curriculum for perpetuating social inequalities by teaching certain values, norms, and behaviors that benefit dominant groups in society, while marginalizing others. They argue that the hidden curriculum reinforces power dynamics and reproduces existing social structures, ultimately disadvantaging marginalized groups.
The intention of the beginning sociologists was to be able to analyze and "build" the perfect society. Which is where Utopian comes from. However, the way in which you analyze each situation is where you will come to discover if it has predictive value or not. If you were to examine the structure from a functionalist point of view there would be nothing to predict. The structure would continue in its ordered fashion. However if you looked at the structure through the eyes of a Conflict Theorist you would be able to predict the eventual demise and recreation of the structure. In my opinion the predictive value of sociology comes from the way you interpret the structure.
Karl Marx is described as a conflict theorist because his work focuses on the idea that society is characterized by class conflict between the ruling class (bourgeoisie) and the working class (proletariat). He believed that this conflict would ultimately lead to a revolution that would result in the overthrow of the capitalist system.

If you are referring to one or more people that are obese you would phrase it. "There are many cases of obesity in Texas."
