Since Alligators live in water and use this water for shelter, their first thing would be to dip under water (they have an additional eye lid that prevents water from blinding them). Once under water they would slowly move towards the deer making as little sound as possible. When the dear were to bend down to drink from the water, the alligator would suddenly surface, grab the deer, and bring it into the water to drown it before eating it.
