Best Answer

Without a Queen, Canada would become a republic and have a president as its Head of State. Over time, I expect the Canadian lifestyle would become even more similar to that of the American.

When was Queen Elizabeth the ruler of Canada?

The current Queen was never the ruler of Canada. Even the slightest such comment from her would have created a Constitutional Crisis particularly after the Balfour Declaration of 1926. If the Queen or Britain wanted anything from Canada they would do so through their Ambassador called a High Commissioner. The Governor General in Canada does not answer to QEII, or any Queen other than the ceremonial one on Canadian paper. The Governor General fulfills a ceremonial role for the Canadian People and our elected representatives via the Prime Minister of Canada. Though many do long for the days when we answered to Britain, our political references to the Queen and Royal stations are ceremonial only. Canada is independent from Britain politically.

Who is Elizabeth 2 queen of Canada?

Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland ------------------------------------------ This is a question that everyone knows they know the answer and no one will agree on in Canada. Many answer as above, as if it is obvious. But Canada's Queen is a paper Queen, a ceremonial position needed to keep consistency in our political system. If we removed the role Canada would have to face many difficult questions, so we keep it. In no practical way is QEII the Queen of Canada. This Queen was never the ruler of Canada. Even the slightest such comment from her would have created a Constitutional Crisis particularly after the Balfour Declaration of 1926 and what lead to that. If the Queen or Britain wanted anything from Canada they would do so through their Ambassador called a High Commissioner. The Governor General, David Lloyd Johnston, fulfills a ceremonial role for the Canadian People and our elected representatives via the Prime Minister of Canada. Though many do long for the days when we answered to Britain, our political references to the Queen and Royal stations are ceremonial only. Canada is independent from Britain politically. Yet there she is, rolling down our Canadian streets in full regalia, she must be our Queen. At best she is a nod to history, to nostalgia, a 3 dimensional representative of a ceremonial position needed because Canada does not want to address many basic constitutional issues. Which we might have to address when Britain replaces her with a King. It will be a sad day for Canada, a day when we will have to grow up, if we can.
