While at the current level they believe it will cause no damage in adults, the worry is that it will cause health issues in children. Parents have been advised to have their children take iodine supplements as a precautionary measure.

Not at all, Japan makes no nuclear bombs. The only ones used on Japan (2) were back in 1945, long before the current generation of Japanese were born.
The nuclear disaster in Japan impacted the society by 90,000 people losing their homes.
A lot more Canadians than you think live in Japan and there are Canadian deaths and if the nuclear reactor melts down then the radiation may travel here.
Japan was hit with an earthquake that measured 8.9 and was upgraded to 9.0. 30 minutes after the earthquake hit a tsunami hit Japan with waves measuring 30 feet tall in some places. Also a nuclear plant was damaged by the tsunami and Japan has had a nuclear crisis situation to deal with on top of everything else. Thousands of people have lost their lives and the number continues to grow.

The recent Japan earthquake and tsunami, damaged several of Japan's nuclear power plants. These have leaked and are still leaking radioactive isotopes into the surrounding environment where they will pose a health problem to the people of Japan for many thousands of years.
