The Puritans along with the Pilgrims and Quakers all wanted to leave England to re-establish their religious practice. The New World would bring great blessings from God to the Puritans if they dug their heels into the American soil.
The Puritans believed in the community, that individuals should support and help one another. They enforced a strict moral and religious code that can be seen in some of the evangelical groups today. They also believed in hard work and saw economic success as a sign of a good life. While not believing in equality and the freedom of religion as we define it today, the Puritans did believe in a well ordered society which would lead to a belief in a government that would guide and protect all citizens.
bad because the puritans were different.
I would think most "Americans" are lazy and are just looking for a way out of taking the blame for why the u.s. is spiraling downward. Most people in the country today would define an American as an independent and self reliant individual with strong family ties and strong loyalties to groups, individuality and individual rights.
The Mayflower Compact stated that the Puritans would follow the rules of the government. They didn't arrive where they originally intended so the rules of England did not apply. The Compact was created to assure the half of the ship's passengers who were not Puritans that the government of the colony would be elected, not imposed on them.
The American dream was all about pursuing people to success, although it had no concrete basis. People got impressed with its spirit that anyone, who can work hard shall get success. WWI was also all about success, that is, imperial power. America's getting involved into the WWI proves that the American Dream has clearly to do a lot with WWI.
magna carta .
Well, the Puritans were the first ones to come over to the New World from England, so they have a huge affect on American history. Some of America's oldest customs would not be practiced if the Puritans did not land and the Jamestown colony was not settled in 1607. That should give you the basic idea: the Puritans were the first. If you need anything else, just let me know.
Fitzgerald saw the American Dream as the pursuit of happiness and success through hard work, determination, and opportunity. He portrayed it as a deceptive ideal tainted by materialism, unattainable expectations, and moral decay. Fitzgerald's characters in "The Great Gatsby" embody the corruptible nature of this dream, leading to disillusionment and tragedy.
I think it would be more accurate to say that the American dream has proven to have some unintended consequences.

My guess would be for peace.
The Puritans believed simply that hard work was an honor to God and that it would lead to a prosperous reward. They were people who believed in actually working for a living.

the american dream isn't what people expect it to be. ~Apex
"The American dream of rags to riches is a dream for a reason - it is hard to achieve; were everyone to do it, it wouldn't be a dream but would rather be reality."
bad because the puritans were different.
