A patriarchial family is where the head of the family is the husband and the children's father. On demise of the father the inheritors are the mother and the sons. The lineage is from father to son to his son in matters of dominance and inheritance. When a girl marries she goes to live at her husband's home, which may have his parents and siblings. The contrast to patriarchial family is the matriarchial family.
