It is impossible to stop racism. Beyond human behavior, it is intrinsic animal behavior to recognize and respond or react to the stranger in the midst of the homogeneous group.
While humans are sentient, perhaps able to modify their own behavior away from instinct, it usually goes too far and reaches the other extreme. Sometimes this results in racist expression toward one's own group or over sensitivity to it from others.
Be willing to be friends with all. Treat everyone with the respect you want to be treated with. If they choose not to be your friend, be ok with that. And anyone would understand if you dont like someone who is mean to you. Start with those and you will do a great job.
