I'd like to see art in churches in sunbathed glory and am wondering when the very high original doors of a cathedral are fully opened and if there is a special religious occasion when this happens?

You need to call the office or the Rectory for each Cathedral that you visit and ask them. They will be able to tell you the schedule that they keep for things like opening the big doors, etc.
