Oxygen normally makes 2 bonds.

CO has a triple bond.

Essentially Carbon is short 1 bond, but oxygen gets an extra bond.

However, according to Wikipedia, you can think of it as having different resonance structures:

The majority of the electron density is with the carbon despite oxygen being more electro negative.
