Well, in the story the Cabuliwallah written by Rabindranath Tagore, father-in-law's house has two meanings. One meaning to it is the normal one, i.e. house of the bride's father. The other meaning refers to the prison. When a groom goes to his father-in-laws house then he will be served with place to stay along with free meals. Likewise, the prison also provides free meal and place to stay. So, the father-in-laws house referred by Rahman was prison in reality.........

The father-in-law's house in "The Kabuliwala" by Rabindranath Tagore serves as a symbol of family, tradition, and a connection to the protagonist's homeland. It represents a sense of stability and continuity in the midst of the protagonist's changing circumstances and evolving relationships. The contrast between the Kabuliwala's nostalgia for his own family and the protagonist's father-in-law's presence underscores themes of loss, distance, and the passage of time.
