Yes that is very common. Some girls get their periods when they are very young, at 11 or 12. Some girls do not get it until 15 or 16. Everyone is different. Getting your period can also depend on weight too. Heavier girls tend to menstruate sooner than thinner girls for whom it might take a year or 2 longer.
