If you're the opposite of a goth or Emo (those are two different things by the way. They should not confuse them) and people think you are them, then they don't know what a true Goth is. It's a state of mind before it's a style. Just because you wear black doesn't make you Goth. Either way, tell them that they don't know what a true Goth is, and ignore it. Besides, you shouldn't be that ashamed of being called Goth. If your child feels that they want to be goth let them do it just NO BAD MUSIC!!!!

because many people are very stereotypical and think that goth and emo people are the same. even though we are similar they are not the same. people think that if you have pale skin and have dark hair or wear dark clothes your goth. since people dont care enough to find the truth they assume goth people are emo. they also make many other assumptions for example all emo people cut themselves, which is completely untrue im emo but i dont cut myself, and all goth people are obsessed with death, just because goths and emos are interested by death doesnt mean they love death. they also assume that emo people are crying 24/7 but most emo people dont let people see how depressed they really are.

No. A Goth is someone who's predominantly a fan of goth rock (Joy Division, Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy, The Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees etc) and an Emo is someone who's predominantly a fan of Emotive Rock (American Football, Weezer etc). A misconception about both subcultures is that they're based on a mindset or attitude (most people think emo stands for Emotional, when it doesn't. Most people think goths have to be dark and introspective). You can't predominantly be a fan of two separate and unrelated music genres at the same time, although you can be an Emo who likes some Goth Rock, and a Goth who likes some Emotive rock.
