Here are possible causes of no spark on the 1980 CM400, starting from the easiest to fix:
kill switch turned to "off" position.
Bad spark plugs. (It's important to be aware that on this bike, both spark plugs must not be fouled; If either one is fouled enough not to fire, there will be no spark, because the way the system is designed it takes both plugs to complete the ignition spark plug circuit.)
Kill switch malfunction, causing the coil to be grounded.
Ignition switch malfunction, causing the coil to be grounded.
Bad Coil. You've presumably eliminated this, but consider the possibility the new or used coil you obtained could be bad)
bad pulser coil or stator. (follow instructions in the shop manual to test these, the manual is available all over the net in .pdf)
If your Honda CRV cranks but won't turn over because the spark plugs are not getting spark, ensure the wires are connected. A loose spark plug wire can cause this issue.

NGK Iridium spark plugs are fine for your 1996 Honda Accord.
The Honda Civic has four spark plugs, one for each cylinder.
As long as it is running, & starting good, & getting good mileage, change them at 100,000 miles.

Sounds like you flooded it. Pop the plugs out and let the gas evaporate and try it again.
NGK is an excellent plug for your Honda and is the OEM plug. But you can also install Denso plugs.
