The plug-in on your pedal works as an on-switch. It's only supposed to work when you have it plugged in. :) Hope this solves your problem.
A semi-Acoustic, or Electro-acoustic guitar, can be plugged into an amplifier and have FX pedals used with it, an acoustic guitar doesn't work with amp whatsoever, and it can only be played unplugged

If you are using the guitar that came with the Rock Band 2 kit, then you don't have to charge the guitar. All you have to do is replace that batteries that are located on the back of the guitar. The guitar takes three double A batteries.
