The best thing you can do is try to let him go. If he's already told you he doesn't like you in that way, there's pretty much nothing you can do about it. It's unfortunate that he decided to go after your best friend, but you can't really do much about that, either. If I were you, I'd let him go and move on. Even if he came back to you, what's to stop him from dumping you again? Find someone better fitted for you.
