Hypnos is the father of Morpheus.Hypnos was the god of sleep itself, most likely he put the gods and mortals alike to sleep. Phobetor Ok. though phobetor is considered the god of dreams and nightmares it also depends who you ask. Other gods such as Phantasos or Hypnos could appear in dreams cause nightmares or fall into a deep restless sleep full of nightmares.

For all we know, it was his duty as the messenger of the gods by dreams, which had to be something rather disturbing to the dreamer but I imagine amusing to the standards of a god of dreams.

The Greeks viewed their gods as being omnipotent. Poseidon didn't have set powers, though he did have special providence over earthquakes.
"Providence" refers to the Providence of God or the will of God. Christians believe the Bible provide clear direction as to what is Right and Wrong. However they pray to know the Will of God so they will know if they are doing what God has called them to do. "Ways of Providence" means the ways of God's will for our lives.
