You are the one who has to change- you have to overcome your shyness and come out of your shell. Start by talking to one person you are in close contact with and make conversation for a few minutes. Every additional day add one person until you are more comfortable in social situations. Shyness is hard to overcome, but you have to think about how bad it looks not talking to someone in close quarters when talking is not inappropriate. It's a little rude not to at least exchange greetings.
