If your keys are original, they may be too worn to work the lock. I had a key that would work in the trunk, but not the ignition. I went to the Toyota dealer with the VIN number and registration in my name and they cut me a key from scratch to the original lock specifications, not a copy of an existing key. Now, that's the best key I have, works smoothly in all locks. Cost me $7, money well spent.
I bought the car second hand and came with only valet key which starts the car, but doesn't allow access to the trunk or locked glovebox. As above, dealer cut a new key from original VIN from scratch and the new key works perfectly for everything now.
