On any "V" designed engine if you look at the front of the engine from above looking down towards the front of the valve covers....... the valve cover that sticks out further towards the front is the odd firing cylinder bank(#1,#3 #5 #7 etc) get it???? the other side is the even firing bank (#2,#$4,#6,#8) follow the wires back to the cap from # 1 and walla there you go... providing someone didnt get there hands in there and screw everything up!!on a v/8 Chevy the order is 18436572 clockwise not everty engine is the same with firing orders and some are counter clockwise(click the strtyer and watch the rotor turn with the cap off, either to the right(clockwise...or left counter clockwise) get it??? Have fun go to the library or buy a repair manual on this stuff.
Determine which cylinder is # 1 pull that spark plug out, than bump engine over until piston comes up,( air comes out plug hole),the rotor will be pointing at the # 1 distributer position. On my 92 the firing order is 153624 clockwise. Plugs are numbered from front to back. firing order is located on intake manifold.

If you have a 389 (6.4L) the firing order from #1 cylinder is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. It might be stamped on the intake manifold. #1 cylinder is the front cylinder on the driver's side. You'll have to trace back the existing wire to identify the correct port in the distributor cap. Mark the cap with a sharpie pen for future reference.
