This is a common myth; while older dogs will keep younger dogs in line as far as dog manners and behaviors are concerned, in terms of training the younger dog to live successfully in *human* society and *among humans* the younger dog needs the full commitment from his or her owner to be trained and socialized. A common problem when adopting a puppy with an older dog in the house is that the puppy will bond with the older dog as the "Alpha" instead of with the human as the "Alpha." This causes all kinds of problems.
In reality, adding a dog to a household with a dog already means that the human needs to put in actually *more* time training and socializing the new dog than with the the old dog in order to have a desirable outcome.
Yes. Manners are very important today. With good manners you show respect for others around you. Without manners, the possibility of getting certain jobs are low.
Good manners are a sign of respect to the people you are dealing with, It makes them feel that you care about them. The reward for this is that you usually end up getting respect in return
There was no getting past their lack of manners, they were perfectly horrid children.
The manners of people requesting help are getting worse.
Whether your dog is a pure bred or a mixed breed dogs just want to please their master/mistress and will work hard at it. They are the most loyal part of your life that you will ever encounter so treat your pet with patience, kindness and teach them good manners and good bathroom habits. If you don't feel you can train your dog then go with your dog to a good trainer (there are group classes as well) and at least teach them the basis. It is said that mixed breeds are often easier to train. If it is part Lab this dog should be quite smart ;) # However, every dog is different and learns at their own pace. If your dog isn't making that much progress in you training her, then try joining obedience school classes! They help tremendously and help socialize your dog!
