It sounds to me like your clutch is going out,you should replace it as soon as possible.
If it had a carburetor , it wouldn't be hard to replace - it's fuel injected
Yes they do have struts and they aren't hard to change

Take it to a good mechanic. Too hard to do it yourself. Ed

Check that the rubber bushing one the kick down rod are in tack. They like to break
