John Buckingham was a line of guns made by Henri Pieper of Belgium in the mid 1800s. Break the gun down and look for his mark. a P or pieper or maybee an H. I have a 12ga ss marked John Buckingham on the lockplate and is engraved on all of the metal but none on the stock. Yours may have been made at the Liege gunworks in Belgium.

John Buckingham shotguns where made by Henri Pieper in belgum in the mid 1800s I have a question in now to determine exactly where mine was made.
If that "small figure of a man?" is a knight in armor, you probably have a Bayard manufactured by Henri Pieper or Anciens Etablissments Pieper in Belgium.
50-100 USD or so

Look up Henri Pieper or John Buckinghgam shotguns on the Internet he was a prolific gun maker in the mid 1800s in Liege Belgium and the Buckingham was one of his better efforts. Pieper's son Nickolas was also a gun maker of early auto hand guns. also look up Ferdinand Hanquet his fam also made sporting an military guns in the same place
Pieper was a Belgian gun maker, so it was most likely made in Belgium. Look for the Belgian black powder proof marks.
