Most cross stitch patterns for 28 count fabric are designed to be stitched "over two" - that is each stitch goes over two threads of the fabric. If this is the case for your pattern, then you can stitch "over one" on 14 count fabric and the pattern will be exactly the same size.

Can you reduce a cross stitch pattern to fit a certain area?

Cross stitch patterns are usually grids that show the placement and color of the stitch. If you make 5 stitches per nch, your work will be very large. If you use the same pattern, on 10 stitches per inch, it will be smaller. The more stitches per inch you use, the smaller your picture will be. most cross stitch is done on "aida cloth" - fabric with the little squares easy to see and use - it is rated according to how many little squares fit in one inch. (eg: 14 count aida cloth has 14 little squares in one inch, 10 count has ten squares per inch, etc) the count of the cloth you use will effect the size of the finished cross stitch. the SMALLER you want the finished picture, the LARGER the count needs to be.

How do you count double crochet stitches?

You can count the stitches by looking at either the stitch post or the top loops of the stitch. Don't forget to count the beginning turning chains as a stitch.

Ridges are counted instead of rows in garter stitch because it is much easier to count ridges than rows in this stitch pattern. Two rows make one ridge.

What does 12 patt repeats mean in crochet?

In many patterns there is a portion of the pattern that is repeated across the row. That is called the pattern repeat. The pattern should specify this in some manner. It might be in parenthesis, or it might say at the end of the section (pattern stitch) In this case, you are being asked to work the pattern stitch (or repeat) 12 times consecutively. It is helpful when you complete the row as you can easily count the repeats rather than the individual stitches.

Where was cross stitch invented?

I make coasters and greeting cards using cross-stitch inserts. Cross stitch is commonly used to decorate baby clothing, such a bibs and quilts. It is also used extensively on women's clothing on collars, sleeves, and necklines. Cross stitching is often used to accentuate seams on slacks and vests. An over-all cross stitch pattern is used to decorate placemats, table cloths, and bedspreads, and cross stitch wall hangings. It is also very popular on Christmas stockings and to accent gift items. Counted cross stitch has been around for centuries and young girls in the early 1800's used linen and thread to create samplers of words and sayings. There are samplers from young girls as young as eight or ten that are surfacing at antique auctions and drawing big bucks. Cross Stitch can be either counted (where you use a paper pattern and count the stitches onto Aida or Linens) or stamped cross stitch meaning it is stamped on a fabric and you stitch over the inked area.

What does tch mean in crocheting?

Turning chain. These are the stitches you make before you turn your work to begin another row. The number varies with each stitch. These stitches bring your work to the correct height before you make additional stitches. For single crochet that tch does not count as a stitch. For double crochet and all taller stitches, it does count as a stitch.

No. The last chain is the one before that one.

Crochet single crochet one row and double next?

That is a long stitch. Just count 4 rows down and insert your hook in the stitch in line with the stitch on your present row but on the row 4 rows down. You will have to work very loosely and pull up your golden loop so that your stitches on the present row remain even and your work doesn't pull in.
