Most likely the ark would have been brownish and black, since it was made of wood and covered with pitch.

Nancy Morgan Hart's house has been torn down and refurbished since the Revolutionary War, therefore their are no photos of her house. Instead of using a photo I suggest finding a painting of her house.

During the 11th century the color of ink that was used would have been either blue-ish black or just black and it would over time fade to a brownish color. Not long after that in the 15th century a new type of ink was produced for Gutenberg and the printing press.
Being of the House of David it was most likely Black but could have been Brown.

Typically, it'll be black or something close to it once its burned. It always appears brownish to me and has a very bad smell. The smell more than anything let's you know the transmission have overheated and the fluid has been burnt.
