There is no ONE number of credits. The number depends on the job you choose (MOS) and the training you go through. I received 15 credits but others get more and some get less. The more training you do, the more credits you get
The Marine Corps offers the Montgomery GI Bill and the Post-9/11 GI Bill, which can provide funding for education. The amount of credits or financial support you receive will depend on several factors, such as your length of service, type of service, and the specific education program you choose to pursue. It is best to contact a recruiter or Veterans Affairs representative for detailed information on credit eligibility.
Unfortunately, not much. My college transferred only 3 credits for Marine Corps boot camp.
No. In fact, most Marines have less than two years of college experience when they first enter the Marine Corps. However, your some of your training in boot camp and your MOS school may count as college credits. Once you get through boot camp and MOS school, you will able to use tuition assistance programs that are available to military members. Marine Corps Community Services (MCCS) is availible on most Marine Corps bases. Once you get to your first duty station, talk to their Education and Career Services section. They can help you get started.
The Marine Corps will require a High School Diploma. The GED may be a possibility; however you should contact the nearest Marine Corps Recruiting Office for detailed information. The Marine Corps at this time (2009) will only allow about 5% of the recruiting mission to be GEDs, and the rest require a high school diploma. With enough college credits you do not need a high school diploma and will be counted as a high school graduate. I'm not sure how many credits are needed, though.
