I have lost my memory stick and unfortuntely didn't make copies of the work that was on it the work is still on the recent documents list so is there any way I can get the work back on my laptop?

There is a way, what you do is either:
1. Think where you're memory stick last was.
2. Retrace your steps
3. Ask who was in that room about it.
Or, the technical way:
1. If you are using a Mac - you're screwed.
2. If you are using a PC you might not be screwed. It's all down to luck.
3. Go to recent documents.
4. Click on it (if it's there)
5. If the file says 'Does Not Exist' you are screwed.
6. If by a 2000-1 chance it works - you're a lucky piece of...
