You need to check your states statute of limitations for being sued concerning a credit card. I live in Florida. The SOL for this state is five years. After that point the credit provider can still report the debt, but cannot sue for it, even if the account is sold to a collection agency. The date of last activity on your credit card will be the starting date for the SOL.
five years
Unpaid medical bills are on your credit score until they are settled with the company that issued the bills or written off of the credit report. This could be for many years if you are making payments on the account or might end more quickly if you have declared bankruptcy.
Normally it takes 7 years for a foreclosure to expunge from your credit report. However it that meantime, paying bills early, paying more then minimum on credit card bills. Just managing your money in general. Slowly over time it will improve.

Short Answer: Yes. If you were deliquent, and then paid, it will show that you paid, but were late. And that stays on your credit for seven years. Sometimes you can negotiate with the collection firm to have it removed from your credit in exchange for payment.
Pay you bills on time. Try to get some kind of credit and make sure it is paid on or before the due date. That is what we are doing after our foreclosure 2 years ago.
Seven to Ten years. Any bad marks on your credit history can and most likely will remain with you for 7 to 10 years before they are wiped off you record. This is why it is so very important to keep a clean credit history, pay all you bills on time, etc. One little late payment will mar your credit history for many years.
When a person does not have credit but has a history of paying their bills on time, they can request a letter of credit from companies such as the telephone company. Typically a minimum of a one year period has to be paid on time in order to request this letter.
