Muhammed (he) was a rich merchant in Mecca when he went to pray and fast in a cave on Mt. Hira. On one of these trips he was visited by the angel Gabriel and told that he was Allah's (God's) last prophet and that he must spread the message that there is no God but Allah and Muhammed is his prophet. He was also told to write the exact word of God in a holy book called the Koran. He began to preach Islam throughout Mecca but was only able to gather a handful of followers when he heard of the merchants plot to kill him because he taught that the rich should help the poor. So he fled from Mecca on what is now called the Night of the Flight. He went to Medina where they accepted his religion and he took over the government. Then he built an army and returned to Mecca where everyone converted and lived happily until Muhammed died in 632.
